Loved this one, too. Continuing my reading rereading of the Sunfires this summer I did not read Darcy in my younger years This would be because by the time it was released, I was no longer reading Sunfires I was onto Steven King and Dean Koontz, I think I really liked this one, but was surprised It is pretty graphic during the hurricane when you consider the audience of these books For me, it was another interesting read I love the history in this series with a smattering of romance Darcy was a bit annoying Continuing my reading rereading of the Sunfires this summer I did not read Darcy in my younger years This would be because by the time it was released, I was no longer reading Sunfires I was onto Steven King and Dean Koontz, I think I really liked this one, but was surprised It is pretty graphic during the hurricane when you consider the audience of these books For me, it was another interesting read I love the history in this series with a smattering of romance Darcy was a bit annoying in the beginning, but she grew on me She s not my favorite heroine of all time, but her story was definitely one that I enjoyed This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, click here Genre love triangles, historical fictionSummary Darcy is the daughter of a wealthy shipowner in Galveston TX On the eve of her 16th birthday party, the infamous hurricane of 1900 hit To date it was the greatest natural disaster on U.S soil Estimated losses range from 6,000 12,000 lives lost Darcy is caught in the storm with the cousin of her best friend Prior to the disaster, they flirted a lot, making Darcy s good guy friend Alex, very jealous Michael Darcy s flirt and best friend s c Genre love triangles, historical fictionSummary Darcy is the daughter of a wealthy shipowner in Galveston TX On the eve of her 16th birthday party, the infamous hurricane of 1900 hit To date it was the greatest natural disaster on U.S soil Estimated losses range from 6,000 12,000 lives lost Darcy is caught in the storm with the cousin of her best friend Prior to the disaster, they flirted a lot, making Darcy s good guy friend Alex, very jealous Michael Darcy s flirt and best friend s cousin saves Darcy several times during the storm, constantly pulling her to higher ground After the storm, Michael, an engineer, stays to rebuild Galveston and live happily ever after with Darcy.Response Usually books from the Sunfire Series are fluffy, predictable and drama filled However, this offering was quite different from the usual fare For once, there was a legitimate source of drama The descriptions of the hurricane and the aftermath were horrific and visceral The author didn t try to shield her southern belle heroine from any of the dangers, death or destruction of the storm Consequently, the love story was a little lacking Like all the other books in the series, it s a love triangle, as evidenced by the cover image But there didn t seem to be much of a choice Her long time friend Alex was a momma s boy, rude and immature Michael was the clear winner, from the very beginning Also, their relationship wasn t investigated very thoroughly You don t knowwhyMichael loves Darcy, he just does So for a quick easy read it was ok The descriptions of the death and destruction are very disturbing, so if you are expecting a sweet romance, take warning Having visited Galveston with Jennie, I had to pull this out My very first Sunfire now has deeper relevance Darcy shopped at the Strand, I shopped at the Strand Darcy drove down C St, I drove down C St She visited the docks, I visited the docks She talked about Sealy St, Broadway, etc, and I could picture where things were I understood the horror of the Gulf water all the way over on the other side of the island, because I d driven across the island, too, and knew how far away it should be Having visited Galveston with Jennie, I had to pull this out My very first Sunfire now has deeper relevance Darcy shopped at the Strand, I shopped at the Strand Darcy drove down C St, I drove down C St She visited the docks, I visited the docks She talked about Sealy St, Broadway, etc, and I could picture where things were I understood the horror of the Gulf water all the way over on the other side of the island, because I d driven across the island, too, and knew how far away it should be Awesome g Also, it s just plain a fun book Michael is a great hero, and I love Hildy and Rose I would have given this a four star but it wasn t something that I like I like the heroine She was very good at doing things on her own And her relationship with the characters wasn t always perfect Overall, it was very realistic in its portrayal of the hurricane Good plot I just didn t fall I love with the book So 3 stars. Waxing Nostalgic 3 Darcy is about the Galveston hurricane of 1900 Shura is one of the best writers of this series She gives the characters purpose and gravity in the time of destruction The danger is intense and the characters learn and grow Darcy falls in love and it is sweet to read This was the last Sunfire that I know of and I think the series ended on a high note. This is a sweet book and one of this series that I remembered most vividly The telling of the hurricane that covered Gavelston Island is well done I like all the characters and it s a great read. There were plces where the book hadn t been edited closely. Go ahead and mock me I just plowed through a YA romance novel this afternoon It s fine.I loved these books 25 years ago Reading it as a mom of a teen gives it a slightly different feel The romance wasn t as much the focus as the awful terrible tragic Galveston hurricane of 1900 This one isn t for the squeamish The author is pretty honest about the horrors of that disaster. The murderous force of the Galveston Hurricane ofbrings the winds of change to a pampered young girl When Darcy survives the savage storm, she learns to appreciate her own strength and stands by the man she loves
