A very good and interesting story I love how Ms Brown s stories are complicated and how she resolves the complications So, why only 4 stars It s because the romantic part of the story seemed rushed I couldn t feel the connection between Duncan and Elise I couldn t understand, besides the insta lust, why Duncan fell in love with Elisa. They didn t have very much contact, they didn t interact enough, he hated her, didn t trust her, suspected her of murder and of being a money grabbing cold w A very good and interesting story I love how Ms Brown s stories are complicated and how she resolves the complications So, why only 4 stars It s because the romantic part of the story seemed rushed I couldn t feel the connection between Duncan and Elise I couldn t understand, besides the insta lust, why Duncan fell in love with Elisa. They didn t have very much contact, they didn t interact enough, he hated her, didn t trust her, suspected her of murder and of being a money grabbing cold woman So why did he thought himself in love with her Elise also fell in love with Duncan without actually knowing him They were just bang and were in love I felt like there were large chuncks of the book missing The part where their attraction has evolved from lust to love through some action, some dialogue, someting shrug I just couldn t feel tha love growing partThat being said, I enjoy the mistery part, the revenge part and the investigation part Those were excellent

Things get started when Detective Duncan Hatcher is called to the home of Judge Cato Laird s home where his wife, Elise had shot and killed an intruder What follows during the investigation is lots of intrigue and subterfuge It s an interesting story with a slow start and an exciting second half The ending had me in a twist and confused so that s a plus However, I found it difficult to connect with anyone, especially Elise and Hatcher s partner, Dee Dee He also ran hot and cold so often he Things get started when Detective Duncan Hatcher is called to the home of Judge Cato Laird s home where his wife, Elise had shot and killed an intruder What follows during the investigation is lots of intrigue and subterfuge It s an interesting story with a slow start and an exciting second half The ending had me in a twist and confused so that s a plus However, I found it difficult to connect with anyone, especially Elise and Hatcher s partner, Dee Dee He also ran hot and cold so often he left me on the sidelines It s not my most favorite but I still enjoyed the story 3.5 stars

2.5 StarsOverall Opinion This wasn t nearly as good as I had hoped I liked the mystery aspect and how it took a while for everything to be revealed I just didn t like the romance At all It was major instalove that didn t make any sense other than lust It actually irritated me because it felt so out of nowhere and majorly undeveloped I didn t feel like we got into much depth with the characters and that might have also contributed to not feeling their connection to each other Overall, It 2.5 StarsOverall Opinion This wasn t nearly as good as I had hoped I liked the mystery aspect and how it took a while for everything to be revealed I just didn t like the romance At all It was major instalove that didn t make any sense other than lust It actually irritated me because it felt so out of nowhere and majorly undeveloped I didn t feel like we got into much depth with the characters and that might have also contributed to not feeling their connection to each other Overall, It sadly was a disappointing read for me.Brief Summary of the Storyline This is Elise and Duncan s story Duncan is a police detective and he is enraged when a obviously known criminal gets out on a murder with a mistrial Soon after, he gets called out to the judge s home where his wife, Elise, has murdered who she claims is an intruder Something doesn t add up for Duncan and his partner and they don t let it go with a simple self defense case Thetime Duncan spends around Elise thethings getconfusing and his attraction for her grows There are some big secrets revealed, some suspenseful scenes, and some sexy timesand they get a HFN ending.Point Of View POV This alternated between focusing mainly on Duncan, Elise, and other side characters in 3rd person narrative.Overall Pace of Story Good I thought it flowed well and I never skimmed.Instalove Yes It came out of nowhere for me It honestly made me think, Whoa Where d that come from and was rather irritating H Hero rating 3 stars Duncan He was alright I didn t feel like we really got a good idea on who he was supposed to be though.h heroine rating 3 stars Elise She was alright She kept her truths close when I felt like she needed to come clean sooner.Sadness level Low, no tissues neededPush Pull Yes view spoiler the h is a primary suspect in the H s investigation, so he pushes away and doesn t trust her a lot hide spoiler Heat level Mild They have very little little tension, chemistry, and scenes and not so much it takes away from the story.Descriptive sex YesOW Other Woman OM Other Man drama Yes view spoiler the h is married to OM hide spoiler Sex scene with OW or OM Yes, but not descriptive view spoiler there is a scene with the h and her husband hide spoiler Cheating Yes view spoiler The h is married to OM when intimate and developing feelings with the H hide spoiler Separation No, because I didn t consider them together in order for it to be a separation.Possible Triggers Yes view spoiler The h is married to OW when they meet and are intimate and murder criminal activity violence hide spoiler Closure This ended abruptly with what I would call a HFN ending, b7t 8m sure others would be fine with calling this an HEA view spoiler They get engaged hide spoiler Safety This one is probably Not Safe for most safety gang readers depending on personal preferences view spoiler Does have cheating Does have a non descriptive sex scene with the h and OM Does have the H pushing the h away Does Not have a separation between the h and H see above Does Not have abuse Does Not have a HEA ending hide spoiler

2 stars It was not fun I was angry at Elise forthan half the book.Elise asks Duncan for help and says her husband wants to kill her When Duncan asks what her husband s motive is, she won t tell him Therefore, he has no reason to believe or help her Finally at about the 3 4 mark, she tells him why Then Duncan helps her and the story becomes interesting I would cut a lot of the first 2 3 or so of the book There was too much hypothesizing, pondering, and wondering I did enjoy the 2 stars It was not fun I was angry at Elise forthan half the book.Elise asks Duncan for help and says her husband wants to kill her When Duncan asks what her husband s motive is, she won t tell him Therefore, he has no reason to believe or help her Finally at about the 3 4 mark, she tells him why Then Duncan helps her and the story becomes interesting I would cut a lot of the first 2 3 or so of the book There was too much hypothesizing, pondering, and wondering I did enjoy the last part I enjoyed what happened to the bad guys at the end There was a happy ending with a little romance But the first 2 3 or so made it not worth recommending.A similar thing happened when Duncan asked Elise about her meetings in hotel rooms with Coleman She said they were friends about 20 times But she never clarified or gave details to Duncan Duncan did some investigating and got a different opinion, and by the end of the book, I was still unclear I can assume something, but I wish the author had been clearer I was annoyed that again Elise never gave details about this to Duncan when she was asking for his trust and help The narrator was Dennis Boutsikaris I did not like his southern accent and tone of voice He says too many words with a down tone in the last syllable like no oo, ha rd to sa ay I could take a little of it, but after a while it irritated me.There were about four sex scenes, briefly done One was very pleasant, passionate, and nicely done.DATA Narrative mode 3rd person Unabridged audiobook length 12 hrs and 40 mins Swearing language moderate but rarely used Sexual language mild Number of sex scenes about 4 briefly done Setting current day Georgia Book copyright 2006 Genre mystery suspense with a little romance

He is fighting these feelings for a few reasons all very understandable First, she is married Second, she is married to a man he despises Third, she is the lead suspect in a murder investigation So you know his feelings are there, you aren t sure about hers and during this time she is sleeping with her husband We don t get any details, but there are like 4 different references to at least 4 different times And it is brought to the hero s attention as well It literally burns him up even though he knows he has no right to even WANT her So he does take a night off get drunk and bring a girl home He says he never does that and he was so drunk the only thing he remembers when he wakes up and this girl is there is that he put on a condom He doesn t really remember having sex with her he just remembers putting on the condom and falling asleep So, we don t get any details at ALL about it and the girl leaves right away Also, this girl is part of the story that I can t really give away She DOESNT show back up in the story, BUT the part she played was a part of the story if that makes sense He realizes how stupid he was and how he has never done something like that before This was around page like 131 in a 370 page book There are NO details and I pretty much gave him a pass because I understand why he was fighting his feelings, PLUS the heroine was still sleeping with her husband, but she HAD no choice once you figure out where the plot is going and what s really going on With this book, you have to go in knowing that yes, it does have romance, BUT the suspense mystery is a huge part of the book I was literally guessing until the very end And I am someone that ABSOLUTELY HATES any scenes with ow after the hero and heroine meet, regardless if they are together or not I always give the heroine s passes for some reason, so Elise didn t bother me I can honestly say that the way this book was written, Duncan really didn t upset me either like that type of thing usually would have And yes, the heroine is still married to Judge Cato when she starts a relationship with Duncan, but you KNOW it was ending hide spoiler Love triangle view spoiler No Elise does not love her husband and you learndetails on that as the book progresses I don t want to say any and ruin the plot hide spoiler Sex with om ow view spoiler Yes please reference my cheating comments I put it there because I cannot STAND sex with om ow and do consider that cheating after the hero and heroine met So I put those details under the cheating category hide spoiler Intimate Pasts view spoiler Neither person were virgins at all They pretty much seemed pretty even The hero dated and had casual sex from time to time He references that he never picked up a stranger a brought them home until this one time he does it in the book He references that he was like any other stupid guy in high school and college, but was much tamer now when it came to women and relationships He didn t really want one because of his job until Elise I didn t mind it because he was literally smitten from the moment he saw her Elise took some time to come around and grow feelings for him Duncan definitely fell first hide spoiler Push pull view spoiler This is a definite yes But, as I said earlier, Duncan had every reason to push his feelings aside for Elise It went against every one of his values He has never slept or been TEMPTED by a married woman or someone in a relationship, much less his lead suspect in a murder investigation, that he doesn t believe because she keeps lying So I understood But gosh, he lead for some serious sexual tension and when it exploded damn SB can write some sex scenes No joke hide spoiler OW OM drama view spoiler I m going to say no The heroine s husband really wasn t OM drama He was a key player in the book, but a very terrible man hide spoiler HEA view spoiler Yes and it actually had a pretty satisfying epilogue hide spoiler My review As with all of my SB reviews, I have to keep it short and avoid spoilers because especially with this book you REALLY need to read the book and be left in the dark until details present themselves Besides one aspect that I could have done without, this book literally kept me on the edge of my seat and was one of my favorites by her I enjoyed that unlike some of her other books, this one definitely hadromance in it You know, besides his one mess up in my eyes, which was actually understandable that the hero was 200% smitten with Elise from the very beginning Lately, Sandra Brown has been the only author to really keep me interested in her books to the point where I don t want to put the book down If I wasn t pregnant and could deal with less sleep, I would be eating these books right up On to the next
